Don’t we all wish for a strong immune system? It takes intention to make healthy choices every day. Trying to keep a balanced diet and workout regimen lay the foundation for a healthier life, and health is such a vital key to happiness. While it’s commonly advised to try to get your vitamin and nutrient intake from food, it’s not always possible. With limited time in our day, it’s so convenient to have online health stores like iHerb that can deliver natural products straight to our door.
Being completely transparent, my diet is not always the best. It’s often full of more sugars and carbs than I would like to admit. That’s why I strongly believe in taking supplements to make up for anything we may be lacking in our diet. I wanted to share with you, some of the natural supplements we keep on hand in our medicine cabinet. These are just a handful of Nature’s Way supplements we like to keep in the medicine cabinet.
Nature’s Way, Alive!, Garden Goodness
This is my favorite everyday supplement. I want to try and live a more green and natural life, (while keeping up with a cheat meal here and there) so Nature’s Way, Alive!, Garden Goodness for Men and Women is perfect for hubby and I. These supplements help us not only get our multivitamins in but give us a daily serving of vegetables that we may have missed, unintentionally of course.
Activated Charcoal
This is one I first learned about in PA school. We were taught to use it during the management of certain poisonings or overdoses. Activated charcoal is pretty universal on what it can help relieve. Activated charcoal traps the toxins in your body within your guts, and then passes it through your stools. Nature’s Way Activated Charcoal is useful for curing a hangover, helping relieve diarrhea, Reduces gas and upset stomach, and so much more. Make sure to buy activated charcoal that is safe for consumption, whereas charcoal for grilling is full of toxins.
Elderberry
We like to use Nature’s Way Sambucus Elderberry Lozenges in our preventative arsenal. Elderberry can be a dried berry that is in pill or concentrated liquid form. Reasonable evidence supports its use in reducing the length and severity of cold or flu-like symptoms. It may also support heart health and have a variety of anti-cancer, anti-diabetes and anti-inflammatory effects. This berry is packed full of vitamins like zinc and vitamin C along with antioxidants that make it great to have on hand. Elderberry is not recommended for children below 18 years of age or pregnant/lactating women.
Zinc
I have been taking Zinc for years at the sign of upper respiratory symptoms like a sore throat or a cold. Zinc is a trace element that is essential for a healthy immune system and Nature’s Way Zinc can help strengthen your body immune system to help fight off invading viruses or bacteria. Zinc also plays a role in healing wounds by maintaining skin integrity and structure. This is why it is so often included in diaper rash cream formulations.
Vitamin C & Echinacea
Vitamin C and Echinacea are frequently sought after to prevent and relieve common cold symptoms. We like to take Nature’s Way Vitamin C and Echinacea during times that susceptibility to a cold is increased; such as plane rides, doctor’s office or hospital visits or being around a sick family member. If we do start showing signs of a cold or a cough, when then switch to our Nature’s way Zinc supplement that also contains echinacea and vitamin C. Vitamin C is a strong antioxidant that can strengthen the bodies immune system. Vitamin C has been shown to temporarily lower blood pressure and reduce Uric acid levels that commonly lead to gout attacks.
Melatonin
This current season in life has been full of changes with a move, job change, studying for my boards and several trips. The additional stress and anxiety have messed with my sleeping habits and left me awake at odd hours of the night. I like to use Nature’s Way Melatonin as a sleep aid to get that rested nights sleep that my body craves. If you suffer from insomnia or can’t seem to stay asleep this is a great supplement to try.
Turmeric
Tumeric is traditionally used in Eastern countries as an anti-inflammatory spice. Tumeric is the main component of curry which is essential to many of our traditional dishes. Tumeric has been said to help with joint pain, sciatica issues and more. This spice is highly versatile so we often use it for cooking or an anti-inflammatory face mask. Give it a try and see how it works for you.
