Bathing Toddlers Without Losing Your Mind
I’m finally getting a chance to highlight our bath time routine with 2 toddlers.
I’ve shared before that when I’m solo parenting it can either be a chill night or a mad dash straight from dinnertime to bathtime to bed. The latter usually happens if I’ve had a full day at work and come home with hungry, screaming toddlers who refused to eat their food at daycare. I don’t know how single moms do it everyday, but I commend you.
They still love their bath toys
Our toddler bath time routine is pretty interesting, having 2 toddlers so close in age. When hubby is home, we often divide and conquer for bath time but when it’s only me, I get them in the bath together and entertained with their special bath toys that only come out during bathtime. Kids are so open to learning if you turn it into a game, so I tend to use this opportunity to count, go over the alphabet and colors. I am so happy to see my boys a step ahead when it comes to their numbers and letters. This is my trick— you’re welcome.
Stick to a routine
We have done the same thing and used most of the same products for bath time since they were born. It’s been easy to grab our bathtime staples while already shopping at Walmart. It’s important to shop with reliable retailers, and Walmart makes it even easier by having so much to offer online. Walmart has next day and two-day shipping options with no hassle returns we all know and love.
They seriously know how to help a mom take it easy— at least for a little bit.
The Basics:
Bath Time: Right after dinner
Bath Length: 15 minutes max (strict bedtime by 8 pm)
Bath Products: Baby Dove Tip to Toe Wash
Post BathTime: Both of our boys tend to have skin on the dryer side so we find it helpful to mix Baby Dove’s Rich Moisture Lotion with Aquaphor’s Original Ointment. It’s all about locking that moisture in while they’re still moist. I would like to take them out of the bath one at a time as I sit on our parents choice to step stool and moisturize them. This includes moisturizing their hair with the leave in conditioner, using a wide tooth comb and a hard brush.
Something we’re incorporating into their moisture routine is using a light and natural baby oil like Hello Bello’s Premium Baby Oil. Walmart is now carrying Hello Bello, a plant-based baby brand by Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard.
How often we bathe them
This is a serious debate when we are around their grandparents. They insist the boys need a bath twice a day but studies have shown its detrimental to skin that is prone to eczema or dryness. So when they aren’t at grandma’s house, it’s once a day in the evening before bed.
Walmart is one of America’s top destinations for baby gear and this year is Parent’s Choice 20 Year Anniversary, Walmart’s exclusive baby brand! Now that’s something to celebrate. I’ve used Parent’s Choice since I became a mom.
Let me know if you have any questions about our bathtime routine!
