Miraval Austin : Texas Couples Getaway

Miraval Austin : Texas Couples Getaway

Parenting is one of the most rewarding jobs in the world—but let’s be real, it’s also one of the most exhausting. Between school drop-offs, work, and endless snack negotiations, it’s easy to lose sight of your partner as a person, not just a co-manager of the chaos.

That’s why I was thrilled (okay, ecstatic) when the opportunity came up to partner with Miraval Austin for a hosted couples wellness retreat. This was a dream collaboration—one I’d secretly been manifesting since I first visited Miraval for my solo birthday getaway last year. That trip changed me. This time, I brought my husband so he could finally experience the magic I’d been talking about ever since. Spoiler: he gets it now.

If you’re a Gen Z or Millennial parent craving meaningful rest, deeper connection, and a weekend that actually leaves you recharged instead of needing a vacation from your vacation, this one’s for you.

Getting There: The Drive From Houston in Our Tesla

No TSA lines. No baggage fees. Just a peaceful Texas drive from Houston to Austin in our Tesla. The route takes about 2.5 to 3 hours depending on traffic (and Buc-ee’s snack breaks), and it’s a scenic enough ride that we used it as a chance to start mentally checking out from regular life.

Yes, Miraval Austin is EV-friendly. You can charge on-site overnight as long as you bring your Tesla adapter*. We woke up each morning with a full charge, which made the return home stress-free and smooth.

Tesla Travel Tip: Toss a mini tote in your trunk with your adapter, cables, and a microfiber cloth*. Morning dew can make a mess of your charging gear.

When to Visit Miraval Austin: Weather and Best Times to Go

Miraval is beautiful year-round, but Texas weather has its quirks. Here’s what to consider:

Season Temps (High/Low) Vibe Why Go Watch Out For
March – May 70s–80s / 50s–60s Wildflower season, fresh energy Ideal for hiking, yoga, spa + sun Spring break crowds
June – August 90s–100s / 70s Peak summer vibes Kids are at camp = perfect parent escape HOT—book early mornings
Sept – Nov 70s–90s / 60s Golden sunsets + warm days Fewer crowds, cooler evenings Some unpredictability
Dec – Feb 50s–60s / 30s–40s Cozy, quiet, introverted Fireside workshops + spa time Occasional cold snaps

We went in late spring, which was perfect. Mornings were cool enough to hike, afternoons were warm enough to swim, and the sunsets over Lake Travis were pastel masterpieces. My solo trip was in August and yes—it was hot, but totally manageable thanks to the spa, the pool, and scheduling early classes.

What’s Included at Miraval Austin?

Miraval isn’t a party resort. It’s not about cocktails by the pool or over-the-top everything. It’s intentionally curated to help you rest, reset, and reconnect.

Included in most stays:

  • Three nourishing meals a day (plus snacks and non-alcoholic drinks)
  • Access to dozens of included classes, from yoga to breathwork to creative workshops
  • Mindful gratuities (tips are included—no awkward signing after every service)
  • Daily resort credit (usually $175 per person per night*) to use on spa services, specialty classes, or private sessions
  • Access to amenities like pools, saunas, trails, and the fitness center

Optional extras you can use your credits on:

  • Spa treatments (highly recommend the couple’s massage*)
  • Equine experiences and private adventure sessions
  • Astrology, nutrition consults, or relationship coaching
  • Wine with dinner (not included but available for purchase)

If you’re a parent who hasn’t made it to a yoga mat in months, don’t worry. Miraval meets you where you are. You’re not expected to be “good” at anything. Just open.

Our Couples Wellness Itinerary: 3 Days / 2 Nights

We didn’t over-schedule, and that was the best decision we made. We layered in movement, rest, conversation, and novelty—without turning it into a checklist.

Day 1: Settle + Soften

  • Drove in from Houston and arrived just after noon
  • Check-in was seamless and welcoming
  • We started with wellness shots and matcha lattes (the real MVPs), then walked the property to ground ourselves
  • Took a light afternoon movement class to shake off the road trip
  • Dinner at Hilltop Crossings Kitchen — we both raved about the seasonal soup and fresh fish
  • Ended the evening by the fire pit, where we actually made eye contact and had a conversation not about work or kids

Day 2: Reconnect + Recharge

  • I took the early Hills & Drills class, and he did morning yoga
  • Met for breakfast — their Blue Zone-inspired bowls were filling and energizing
  • Used our resort credits for a 90-minute couple’s massage* (we left floating)
  • Took part in a healthy relationships workshop — guided prompts sparked real talk we hadn’t had in years
  • Pool time + light lunch
  • Attended a culinary demo on spice balancing and tacos — yes, I took notes
  • Dinner with a wine pairing* and our new favorite dessert (peach crisp, if it’s on the menu, don’t skip it)
  • Nighttime sound bath — he was skeptical, but walked out relaxed and mind-blown

Day 3: Reflect + Ease Out

  • Journaling + gentle morning yoga
  • Short guided hike with a local naturalist — panoramic Lake Travis views
  • We checked out, but stayed on property for a few more classes and lunch
  • Hit the road fully recharged and not dreading re-entry

Packing Tips for Miraval Austin

You don’t need much. Think elevated athleisure.

What to pack:

  • Breathable activewear (yoga, hiking, lounging)
  • A swimsuit and sandals
  • Reusable water bottle*
  • Travel-size journal and pen*
  • Tesla adapter + cables if you’re driving EV*
  • A lightweight hoodie or jacket — mornings can be chilly
  • Hair ties, lip balm, and sunscreen

Optional but nice:

  • A small backpack for hikes*
  • Sleep mask + earplugs if you’re a light sleeper*
  • A book you’ll actually read

Tips for First-Time Wellness Retreat Goers

  1. Don’t overbook yourself. Leave space to wander, nap, or journal.
  2. Pre-book key spa or private sessions as soon as your trip is confirmed.*
  3. Honor the digital mindfulness zones. It’s weird at first but surprisingly freeing.
  4. Be open. Try something you’d usually write off. That’s where the breakthroughs hide.
  5. Let it be easy. There’s no “right” way to Miraval.

Why This Trip Was Exactly What We Needed

We didn’t just get massages. We got space. We weren’t just relaxed—we were reminded of who we are to each other beyond the logistics of parenting and work. It was like someone hit the reset button, and we returned home a better team.

After this trip, I’m already planning a return with my mom. I want her to experience what it feels like to be poured into instead of always pouring out.
