I often get asked how I juggle it all with work, blogging, and 2 toddlers. Keep in mind, my husband is out of town for 2 weeks out of the month so the balancing act is real. While my working mom morning routine varies a bit from day to day, it’s is key in helping me make it all happen. As a busy mom, it didn’t take me long to realize how critical the morning is to the rest of the day. Having a daily routine and sticking to it is one of the best ways I know to help my day go smoothly. I’ve come to appreciate my routine and my family appreciates it because it helps us to navigate through our day as seamlessly as possible.

Get Things Done The Night Before

Do as much as you can the night before. This usually entails choosing my scrubs for the next day, putting some final touches on a blog post, planning lunch or something else that’s pressing for the next day. I can barely keep my eyes open after putting the boys to bed so an hour is all I can give it.

Join The 5am Club

Since returning from our trip to Nigeria, I’ve had no trouble waking up at 5am and I’m hoping to keep it that way. I immediately turn on all of the lights and never seem to need coffee to get me going but I do drink this tea for energy from time to time. Each morning I awake at 5 am and create a list of gratitude and goals. Taking out time to create this list reminds me to thank God for everything I’ve accomplished in the days prior as well as look forward to the goals I’ve set for myself during the day ahead. I’ve discovered that taking a few moments each morning to write this list has been helpful in setting an optimistic tone for the day and is a boost to my overall mood.

Work on My Side Hustle While The Boys Sleep

Waking up at 5 gives me 2 free hours and I make the most of it. I usually use this time to do a majority of my work for the blog. Writing posts, editing photos, creating captions, sending emails. I think it’s important to create before consuming so I tend to keep my phone plugged up away from me until mid-morning. Scrolling is addictive and time-consuming, our time is too precious to waste (I still scroll my life away throughout the day but the longer I delay it, the better). 2-3 times a week I opt to work out in the morning instead of working on blogging.

Don’t Rush Time With The Boys

Next, I take another couple of moments to spend some quality time with the boys as we start this portion of the routine. This usually consists of good morning hugs and kisses then reading them a quick story before getting them ready if time allows. We are consistent on putting them to bed by 8pm which allows them to wake up on time without too much of a meltdown.

What I learned from working 12hr shifts is that I still felt unhappy about my schedule due to rushing my routine with them. My moments with my boys are precious, those little rascals grow up way too fast. Remembering to slow down and remain unplugged from technology in the mornings. By incorporating these moments into my daily routine, it helps me let them know they are important to me.

Breakfast + Vitamins

Depending on how I’m feeling, I may take a shower the evening before otherwise, I may take it after our morning routine while they play in front of the shower door. A.K.A banging on the shower door yelling “Mama! Mama! Mama!”

During their breakfast, I grab a quick bite to eat before I take my Nature’s Way Alive! Multivitamin. As you know, I keep my cabinet filled with Nature’s Way supplements. Incorporating a multivitamin into my morning routine supplements my diet and has become an essential part of it. Similar to taking out time to write my morning list, taking my multivitamin is my way of carving out time for myself and making way for a successful day ahead.
